The sad news of Alan Colmes death has sparked conversation around the political community as they remember his superb career. On Thursday, February 23, 2017, Colmes “passed away at the age 66 after a brief illness,” according to sources from Fox News. As people remember the life of Alan Colmes, here is a reflection back on his life and his accomplishments.

Alan Colmes was born in New York City in 1950 to Jewish parents from Ukraine. He attended Hofstra University where he would receive his BA in communications.

After obtaining his degree, he would start his career in stand-up comedy and then developed a radio career. He bounced around to several different stations across the Northeast before landing a job with Fox News as a liberal political commentator.

Career With Fox News

In 1996, he would co-host his own show with Sean Hannity, Hannity & Colmes. Fox News labeled him a harsh liberal who challenged the conservative Hannity of his viewpoints. This was not a shared view, though. A lot of criticism was sent his way for not being “liberal enough” by people from his own party. Many people call this Fox New liberal, AKA “democrat in name only”. The show would come to an end after 2008 as Hannity took over by himself. After Alan Colmes death, Hannity came out and said “despite [their] major political differences, [they] forged a deep friendship”.

Once the show ended, Colmes remained with the network. He would function more as a Fox News contributor along with being a Fox radio host. Despite the liberal image he was given by his station, he claimed to be quite moderate in his beliefs.

Over the years, Colmes was the author of two books. The first, Red, White & Liberal: How Left Is Right and Right Is Wrong (2003), which discussed the issue of protecting American freedoms during the War on Terror. He urges his readers not to let go of the liberties which the Right threatened to take away in order to “protect” it’s citizens.

In his second book, Thank the Liberals for Saving America (2012), Colmes argues how liberals have made life better for Americans. This was done by the different programs and regulations that were put in place over the years. A Life Story Of Simone Biles

Simone Biles is one of the most celebrated athletes in 2016 Rio Olympics for her prowess in gymnastics as well as her sparkling smile. For every super-star, though, there is an amazing life story that we all are dying to hear.

Simone was born in March of 1997 in Columbus Ohio. Her mother, Shanon Biles, was not able to take care of her, her elder sister, or her two brothers due to alcohol and drug addiction.

Most of Simone Biles childhood has been spent with her grandparents. Ron talked about his granddaughter/daughter in an interview with USA Today after she won her first Gold Medal. He and others hope that a high profile case like Simone’s will help other children around the country find loving homes.

After completing primary school, Biles spent her entire secondary school life homeschooling. This gave her enough time to major on her sport. She graduated in 2015 and had plans to differ her college enrollment until after the 2016 Olympics.

She committed to UCLA, but a year later decided to go professional, hence forfeiting her amateur status. The decision has locked her out of the NCCA championships, but she will instead be able to reap the financial benefits that come along with the success in her sport.

Her dip in gymnastics

Simone had a thing for gymnastics from a young age. She taught herself acrobatic stunts on household furniture long before she began the sport. When she was six years old, she took a field trip to a tumbling gym where she began to fall in love with the sport. She enjoyed how the older girls were twisting and flipping and attempted to mirror the same moves at home.

Her training would not begin until a year later. By the age of eight, she caught the eye of Aimee Boorman. Aimee believed in the little girl and dedicated her life to training Simone.

Junior championships

Simone started her active gymnastics competition in the 2011 American Classics where she fared well in uneven bars, vault, balance beam and all round. She then started home schooling in 2012 so that she could increase her training.

Her jab into senior gymnastics started in 2013 with her debut into the American cup. She could not join the Olympics team in 2012 due to her young age. Because of that, she had to participate in numerous senior gymnastic competitions between 2013 and 2016.

Today, Simone has been portrayed as the best gymnast alive as she dominates throughout the Rio games. Her life story is one that inspires others of greatness in the sport, but also sheds emotions because of the sacrifices others made to get her to this point. Canada is one of the safest countries on earth. It is safer than the United States of America, the United Kingdom and most European countries. Only Switzerland, Finland and a few other European nations along with New Zealand may be deemed just as safe. However, Canada has witnessed an increase in violent crimes in the last ten to twelve years. The scenario back in 2005 was much better. In 2015, the national average of violent crimes per capita had increased by 4.5%. This is mostly being contributed by a rise in crimes across the cities on the west coast.

Safety and danger are realities and they are also perceptions. Hence, if you ask Canadians, they would have a certain list of the most dangerous cities in the country. If you check the crime index as recorded and published officially, then the picture would be slightly different.

A Mainstreet/Postmedia poll whose findings have been recently published listed Winnipeg as the most dangerous city in Canada, followed by Toronto and Montreal. Saskatoon and Edmonton completed the list of five most dangerous cities in Canada. In Edmonton, a majority of people find it safe but 41% deem it unsafe. Saskatoon is deemed by 45% as safe and 40% consider it unsafe. Montreal is safe for 45% and unsafe according to 44%. Toronto is deemed safe by 46% of respondents and 47% consider it unsafe. Winnipeg is deemed safe by only 35% of respondents and 56% of those surveyed consider it unsafe.

Ottawa is indeed one of the safest cities in Canada but so is Toronto if one goes by the last Crime Severity Index of 2015. Let us hence refer to the Crime Severity Index to list the five most dangerous cities in Canada.

• Grand Prairie in Alberta is the most dangerous city with a score of 211.6, which is 22.4% higher than the score in 2013-2014 and is 141.9 greater than the national average of 69.7.

• Red Deer, also in Alberta, takes the second place with a score of 182.

• Prince George in British Columbia is the third most dangerous city with a score of 149.9.

• Victoria, also in British Columbia, is fourth most dangerous with a score of 139.9.

• Surrey completes the list of 5 most dangerous cities in Canada with a score of 128.2.

Looking at Dwayne Johnson’s life from only one angle where he sits at the top of a hill alongside luminaries like Jackie Chan, Tom Cruise, and Robert Downey falls short of the whole story. It is similar to a finishing move in wrestling that excites the fans, not the time taken to perfect it. His journey from a teenager to a football player, to a wrestler and finally a Hollywood star has been one that’s hard to fathom. There were a number of instances that would have led him to a path of incarceration and limited him to the lifestyle of wrestling that has claimed countless lives, but they did not.

Dwayne Johnson is the son of the legendary pro wrestler, Rocky Johnson. Being the son of a pro wrestler, most people would think that that meant that he had a comfortable childhood, but that was not the case. His family was always in financial despair to the point that they were evicted from their home. This turned the Rock to stealing so as to fend for himself which often got him in police custody.

At this time of despair, the only positive thing Dwayne did with his life was body building. In an interview with Esquire, Johnson talked about how his dad would make him wake up every morning at 6 AM to go to the gym with him. Working out and lifting weights started at a young age. He looked up to those people he saw in the gym every morning. This was because the only successful people he knew were built. He was also lucky to continue going to school. After bouncing around several schools, Dwayne made a final stop at Freedom High School in Bethlehem. It was at this school he started playing football thanks to his massive body frame and stubbornness.

Dwayne impressed at football. His success on the pitch also reflected on his grades, and he was able to get a scholarship to play football at the University of Miami. Football changed his personality, and he quit living a carefree life opting for a goal-oriented lifestyle.

Unfortunately for him, he did not receive as much game time in the University of Miami football team due to the presence of better players. After graduating from the University, no football team expressed interest and Dwayne fell into depression. He went back to body building and after a lot of thought he decided to become a wrestler like his father.

In 1996, Dwayne made his WWF debut. His career as a wrestler went on to blossom winning some significant matches. The Rock dominated the storylines for close to a decade winning the WWE/WWF championship eight times. After a while, he felt that he needed more and in his mind, Hollywood was his dream destination.

His dreams finally came true when he made his Hollywood debut in the movie the Mummy Returns. This is back in 2001. Despite his minor role, Dwayne impressed the producers. He went on to be among the cast in movies such as Be Cool, Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 and The Tooth Fairy.

His breakthrough came in 2013 when Dwayne was accorded the title of #1 international box office star for his role in San Andréas. He got the same accolade in 2015 for his role in Fast and Furious 7. He lives by the code that no matter what one achieves in life, they should always aim for more.

Since 1994, every governor has been a member of the GOP. The last time they supported a Democratic candidate for president was in the 70s with Jimmy Carter.

Year in and year out, the GOP relies on its now 38 electoral votes to help stay afloat in the presidential elections where democrats are typically guaranteed 240 electoral votes.

So what if I told you that this could all change in the near future? With the growth of the urban population in Texas, it is well on its way towards a purple future.

This would put the life of the Republican party on the line. Without Texas, they have no chance of clinching the White House again. George Will, opinion columnist with the Washington Post, talks about how Republicans are doing the worst in major cities. And it just so happens that the state has 4 of them: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Dallas.

Donald Trump easily won the state during the 2016 presidential election, but the margins were lower than in years past. In order to the Republican party to gain a stronger foothold in future elections, they will have to continue to improve on their inclusiveness of minority groups.
