Before the 2016 NFL Draft even started, the Las Angeles Rams made a major move via the Tennesse Titans trading their 1st round pick, two 2nd round picks, and a 3rd round pick this year, as well as 1st and 3rd round picks next year for the 1st overall selection and 4th and 6th round picks.
The payoff for the Rams: Jared Goff, QB out of California.
The payoff for the Titans: Jack Conklin, OT out of Michigan St., and a wealth of draft picks in the next two rounds from which they can build a consistent playoff contender.
But let’s focus on Goff. Is he the final piece that puts the Rams over the top? Most think he can be. The positives are as follows: He has an above average arm, with a quick and usually accurate release; he has shown that he has pocket presence and he can run himself out of trouble if need be; and, he has deep ball capability that fits today’s NFL. The cons: His accuracy disappears at times; he fumbles often; and his mental clock has led to a lot of sacks.
All in all, this is not a bad gamble on the Rams part. They are a quarterback away from being a legitimate team, and if this pays off, it will pay off BIG.
